Lingerie Road Test: The Secret Miracle That Is Dear Kate’s Sexy, Comfy Undies

We're not exaggerating when we say that Dear Kate's gorgeous undies are downright miraculous.

Ladies, meet your new best friend. Her name is Dear Kate, and she is AMAZING. Read on for all the deets—PLUS a fabulous deal just for BettyConfidential readers!

Lingerie brand Dear Kate is the brainchild of Julie Sygiel, who was a chemical engineering student at Brown University when she came up with the idea to designer a smarter type of underwear for women. The result is underwear that is leak resistant, stain resistant, and machine washable, while still being ridiculously soft and sexy. That’s right: They’re smarty-pants. Literally.

Here’s how it works: Available in both” full” and “mini” varieties, these undies boast a unique three-layer design. The two innermost layers wick away liquids and release stains like pros, while the outer layer keeps everything breathable. The full version’s lining extends from the top of the front waistband to the top of the back waistband, whereas the mini version covers just the most high-risk area. Neat-o, right?

Naturally, I couldn’t wait to test these scientific marvels out—and lucky me, a pair of Dear Kate’s pretty black and green Ella hipster minis ($34, dearkates.com) landed in my mailbox just the other day. So: Do they live up to their claims? In a word: YES. So much yes!

Confession—and apologies in advance if it’s TMI, but it’s a wee bit relevant, sooooo… yeah: I got an IUD put in just over a year ago (a Mirena, for the curious), and I discovered after it went in that I happen to be one of those women who, as a side effect, doesn’t get periods anymore. To be honest, it’s kind of awesome; but my point is that although Dear Kate’s mini lining allegedly holds a teaspoon of liquid, not having a period means I don’t actually get to test out that little bonus in the standard way. So I did what any self-respecting blogger would do and found another way to test it: I grabbed my measuring spoons out of the kitchen drawer, filled the teaspoon measure with water, and dumped it on the lining.

AND IT WORKS. For reals. I won’t deny that I’m rather astounded by it; the inside of the lining soaked up the water… and the other side was still dry as the proverbial bone.

But it’s good for more than just letting you wear cutie undies even when it’s that time of the month; just think how amazing it will be for, say, athletes. Or during the summer when it’s super hot out (ladybits sweat just like every other part of your body, after all). And did I mention how comfortable they are? They might just be the most comfortable pair of undies I own now—AND they’re sexy and adorable, to boot. I am not exaggerating when I call them miraculous.

In addition to Ella (shown above—and no, that’s not me), there are a wide variety of styles to choose from; each style includes hipsters, briefs, bikinis, and thongs, and the Amelia and Rosa styles are available in the wonderfully named Queen Size for curvy girls. There are even a whole bunch of adorable bralets and super sexy body suits; all of the offerings are affordably priced, too, so your wallet will stay as happy as your body.

But don’t take my word for it. Head on over to Dear Kate’s home on the web  and to get your hands on a pair or two (or three, or five—they come in combo packs, too!) for yourself. PLUS, Dear Kate has a special deal just for Betty Confidential readers: From now through January 5, enter the code “bettyconfidential” at checkout for 25% off first-time orders. It’s worth it. It is so, SO worth it. Promise!
