Talk about nostalgia! Boy Meets Girl designer Stacy Igel chatted with us about the ‘90s-inspired beauty looks used in her Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week shows and more!
Yes, Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week may have come and gone faster than ever, but to bid farewell to one of our favorite times of the year, we caught up with Boy Meets Girl designer Stacy Igel about the fun and fresh beauty look from her Fall 2013 show. From bold lips to the Spice Girls, read all about the Boy Meets Girl’s ‘90s-inspired look!
BettyConfidential: From high ponies to nail art, what inspired this this season’s beauty looks?
Stacy Igel: This season, I was inspired by the “BritPop” music scene of the early ‘90s. This second British Invasion featured bands such as Oasis, Blur, Suede, and later on the Spice Girls; it developed as a unique British reaction to the various musical and cultural trends of the period occurring in the United States. These groups, who wrote about unique British concerns and sang about them in regional dialects, formed the backbone of a larger cultural movement called “Cool Britannia.”
BC: Cool Britannia? We like the sound of that! Okay, let’s talk hair! How did you capture the classic ‘90s look?
SI: I had all models in each collection’s show (Boy Meets GIRL Girls line, Boy Meets Girl University, and Boy Meets Girl Classic) wear a high pony tail, which was very ‘90s. For the GIRLS line, I had the pony crimped, and for the other two lines, I kept the tresses nice and sleek. The hair products used for the show were all by Conair.
BC: Staying on the subject of beauty, we’ve GOT to talk about makeup! How did you create the fun Cool Britannia beauty vibe to compliment your collection?
SI: We used products by Kevyn Aucoin to create a powerful and strong red lip for the Classic line. For the University and GIRLS collections, I opted for more of a muted lip. I worked with James Vincent, the lead makeup artist, for my inspiration; we went with a clean blue line on the rim of the eyelid as well as a clean and fresh face.
BC: We’re a little obsessed with nail art here at BettyConfidential! Can you dish about the awesome manis seen at the show?
SI: Nails were white with black tips for the University line, whereas for the main line, we went for black with white that read “BoyMTSGirl.”
BC: We’ve been seeing the ‘90s absolutely everywhere on the runways! What beauty trends can we expect to see this fall?
SI: Red lips are definitely going to be huge, as well as a clean and fresh face. Also, can we say nails nails nails?
