Check Out the ‘My Super Sweet 16’ Ads That Earned Jennifer Lawrence Her SAG Card
Curious about the MTV ads that got Jennifer Lawrence her SAG card? Watch them here!
When Jennifer Lawrence won her Screen Actor’s Guild Award for Best Female Actor in a Leading Role this past Sunday, the very first thank you she shouted out during her acceptance speech took us a little by surprise: She thanked MTV.
“I’ll explain that,” she continued. “I earned my SAG card when I was 14. I did a promo for My Super Sweet 16. And I remember getting it in the mail, and it being the best day of my entire life, because it officially made me a professional actor, which put me in the category with all of you.” Adorable, right? And hey, guess what surfaced on the Internet shortly thereafter? The My Super Sweet 16 promos in question, of course!
Thanks to the glory of YouTube, we can now revisit the ads that put Jennifer Lawrence on the path to stardom. She did two of them; in both, she stars as Lisa, a 16-year-old being feted… with somewhat disastrous results and rather a lot of yelping. Check ‘em out:
Nothing says “happy birthday” like an exploding cake.
So there you have it, ladies, gents, and would-be stars: You never know what weird, wacky job might earn you the right to call yourself a professional actor. Oh, and by the way, we discovered that the supposed “wardrobe malfunction” wasn’t actually a wardrobe malfunction—in light of which we have to admit that we’re not totally sure why the dress was built that way, but whatever. She still looked great!
