October, as you surely know, is Breast Cancer Awareness month. There are many, many companies who participate in fundraising initiatives this month — and while there are some who feel a this is all just a big marketing scheme, I believe that this awareness month has done a whole lot of good over the years … not just by raising money, but by raising awareness. I know there are many, many women who have scheduled breast exams after being reminded by all the pink ribbons everywhere. And I also know that not very long ago, cancers like breast cancer and ovarian cancer weren’t even talked about — they were considered embarrassing and shameful. “Lady troubles” indeed. So, I’m all for a month that sheds a spotlight on a disease that one every eight women in the U.S. will develop — and that affects far more people than those one in eight.
