Has anyone else noticed how carefully Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have been dolling out the details of their engagement? First we had the announcement; then we had the ring; and now we’ve got the proposal itself. Have they finally caught on to the fact that viral videos, pictures, and information can be much more effective as a marketing tool than plastering your face across the television all the time?
A modest affair, the video features what looks like pyrotechnics, a performance by an entire string orchestra, what looks like fireworks, and Kanye dropping to one knee to pop the question, I would really love to make a Jonathan Swift joke here, although something tells me that referencing a satirical essay about eating babies might not be appropriate…
Anyway, here’s the video:
According to Us Weekly, the footage was shot by YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley, who apparently was one of the many friends and family members present for the big moment. A few clips edited in later on show the Kardashian krew partying their hearts out and a happy birthday/congratulations toast from Lorraine Schwartz, who designed Kim’s engagement ring.
Do you think Kim knew it was coming? Did she, in fact, help (or at least witness) some of the planning that went into this whole to-do? The cynic in me says that she probably did; maybe I’m wrong, though. Who knows. As overblown and ostentatious as the whole thing is, it doesn’t seem quite like the fakelationship she had with Kris Humphries, so maybe it’s a step up. Or something. Even if renting out an entire stadium and filling it with fireworks is kind of overkill.
Tell us: Do you think Kim knew about the proposal in advance?
