I don’t know what part of this story is the most ridiculous. Seriously. I am at a loss.
You’re probably aware of the fact that eccentric designer Karl Lagerfeld owns what is probably the most spoiled cat on the planet. True, Choupette is adorable—but is there any reason a cat needs to have two maids and her very own iPad? No. No there is not. Nor is there really a reason that she should be giving interviews, because… y’know… she’s a CAT.
But she has, to the French magazine Gala. Expose has kindly translated it from French to English for us so that we all have an equal opportunity to go “…I’m sorry, what?” over it—and that is exactly what I am doing right now, mostly because of “Choupette’s” thoughts on her original owner.
Choupette, you see, first belonged to French model Baptiste Giabiconi. Remarked the feline in to Gala,“I didn’t stay long at Baptiste’s. I was only three months when he asked Karl to take care of my for 15 days You know what happened then…”
For those who don’t know, here’s what happened according to Karl: “Baptiste gave her to me for Christmas to watch for two weeks when he was away, but then I refused to give her back. I thought she was too cute.” Yep. Karl stole Baptiste’s cat. Not cool, dude. Not cool at all.
But here’s the worst part: Going back to Choupette’s interview, she then said, “Anyway, Baptiste was not organized enough to have a cat.” Buuuuuuuuuuuuurn.
I’m assuming that either the interview is a work of fiction created by Gala with Karl’s blessing, or else it was actually given by Karl himself in the voice of Choupette; but either way… what? Just… what?! Why does Karl/Choupette feel this strange and mysterious need to belittle the cat’s one-time owner? As far as we know, Choupette wasn’t mistreated or anything at the hands of Baptiste; she just didn’t have the aforementioned maids and techno-toys. Seriously, Karl/Choupette. The badmouthing? Totally uncalled for.
Anyway, in the event that you want to facepalm with us over the rest of the “interview,” you can read it here.
Tell us: Is Karl/Choupette just being Karl/Choupette, or is he (are they?) as out of line as we think they are?
