So remember back in February when we learned that supercouple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were hopping on the celebrity wine-making bandwagon? Well, apparently it was a good move, because their rosé has been named one of the best wines in the world.
Wine Spectator Magazine has just released their Top 100 of 2013 list, on which the Jolie-Pitt & Perrin Côtes de Provence Rosé Miraval earned the 84th spot. With a score of 90 points out of a 100, it’s also the only rosé on the list; its “refined and elegant” taste and “pure and concentrated flavors of dried red berry, tangerine, and melon” classify it as a wine of “superior character and style.”
Good luck trying to get your hands on a bottle, though; when the first 6,000 of them were released, they sold out in just five hours, and according to People, a single autographed barrel (somewhere in the neighborhood of 300 bottles) fetched over $13,000 at auction.
I’m picky about my rosés—the only one I’ve ever had that I didn’t think was sickeningly sweet comes from the Curtis Winery in California’s Santa Ynez Valley—so I’d be curious to see whether Brad and Angie’s comes in on the sweet side or the dry side. Alas, I may never know. Curses! In the meantime, I’m going to go drool over the details of the Rosé Miraval on the wine’s website. It’s five o’clock somewhere, right?
