The final piece of major 50 Shades of Grey casting is in! Bettys, meet Eloise Mumford, the 27-year-old actress who will be bringing Anastasia Steele’s roommate, Kate Kavanaugh, to life. She joins Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan, Jennifer Ehle, Luke Grimes, and Victor Rasuk as the main cast of the page-to-screen adaptation. Don’t recognize the name? She’s a relative newcomer, so it’s not surprising. To help you out, here are six fast, fun facts about her:
1. She’s a native Northwesterner.
50 Shades takes place in Seattle, and Eloise is the only principle cast member who actually hails from Washington State.
2. She’s got chops.
Although Eloise is still early in her career, she earned her wings at NYU’s Tisch School for the Arts, studying acting with the Atlantic Theatre Company. She graduated in 2009—AND she understudied Elisabeth Moss in the Broadway production of David Mamet’s Speed-the-Plow while she was still in school. How’s that for dedication?
3. This might be her big break.
Eloise has starred in a few television shows since she graduated—most notably Lone Star and The River—but both were cancelled early on (Lone Star after only two episodes. Ouch!). 50 Shades will undoubtedly raise her profile, though, so it might just be her ticket to stardom.
4. You’ll be able to see her in action soon.
Although 50 Shades fans will still have to wait until 2015 to see Eloise breathe life into Kate, she’s got a couple of films coming up in 2014: Not Safe for Work and In the Blood.
5. She’s an expert on seaweed.
Her dad is a seaweed scientist, so Eloise grew up learning all things seaweed. True story.
6. She was in Miley Cyrus’ last attempt at a film career.
Apparently in late 2010/early 2011, Miley shot a movie called So Undercover in which she portrayed a private investigator who gets offered a job with the FBI (given that Miley was about 18 at the time, Veronica Mars ripoff, much?). Eloise played one of the sorority members Miley’s PI was hired to protect. The movie apparently ran into some issues, though, as the film’s release date was first bumped from October 2011 to December 2012, then finally done as a direct-to-video release in February of 2013.
50 Shades of Grey will hit cinemas in time for Valentine’s Day, 2015.
