Sadly we lost both Hollywood legends Joan Fontaine and Peter O'Toole over the weekend. To celebrate their lives, here's a look back at their must-watch films.

Peter O’Toole:Peter OToole

Although Peter was awarded the Lifetime Achievement award at the Oscars in 2003—something he initially balked at accepting—he was nominated a whopping eight times for Best Actor in a Leading Role without ever winning the prize. When the Academy notified them of the fact that they were bestowing the Lifetime Achievement award on him, he wrote back (politely, of course) that he was “still in the game” and hoped one day to “win the lovely bugger outright”; they told him they were giving him the award whether he wanted it or not, though, so ultimately he did accept it at the Oscars that year. It’s kind of sad to think that he never won it outright, especially given his extraordinary body of work; he retired in 2010. But here are those eight films. If you haven’t seen them yet, do, as soon as you possibly can. They’re wonderful.

1. Lawrence of Arabia (1962)

2. Becket (1964)

3. The Lion in Winter (1968)

4. Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1969)
