Bridget Jones is back!

News broke last fall that author Helen Fielding was working on a third Bridget Jones novel 14 years after the release of Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. And according to the Hollywood Reporter, the new book finally has a release date: November 2013. Are you as excited as we are? Because we’re over the moon about it!

The book will be published by Knopf. Chairman and Editor in Chief Sonny Mehta announced the news on Tuesday; about the book, he said, “Few writers can rival Helen Fielding when it comes to full capturing the modern woman. I have been waiting a long time to see what’s next for Bridget Jones, and I am beyond thrilled she’s back.”

What can we expect from the new book? No details have been released yet—we don’t have a title yet, either—but according to EW, a) there’s a third Bridget Jones movie in development, too; and b) the book won’t follow the planned plot of the movie, which involves Bridget having a baby. An interview with the BBC Fielding gave last November has a few hints about what we’ve got to look forward to, though, so here are some tidbits for you:

- Why now?: “I just found last spring I had a new subject, I had new stuff I wanted to say and things that were making me laugh—things that didn’t exist when I wrote the last Bridget. Like emails, really. And texting. The way life is lived through texting and Twitter and a whole new idea for a phase of her life.”

- On whether Bridget is still keeping up her tally of cigarettes and alcohol units: “It’s actually more like ‘number of Twitter followers: 0. Still no followers. Still no followers.’” LOVE.

- On the Mark Darcy-Daniel Cleaver dichotomy: “Some characters remain and some may have disappeared. People stay in your life, but everyone’s life moves on.” We’re imagine that this means that Mark is still around (maybe they got married?), but that Daniel is long gone. We’ll have to wait and see, though.

- On what the book is about: “In the same ways the first Bridget Jones book was looking at the way a 30-something single woman was branded as a tragic spinster and then we got the new idea of a singleton, [the third book is] looking at later phases in life where you get branded as a certain thing, and you don’t have to be that at all, and it’s all outdated and ridiculous.”

Fielding has noted, “My life has moved on, and Bridget’s will move on, too. I hope people will have as much fun reading it as I am writing it.” We’re sure we will!
