Have We Finally Gotten Confirmation That Miley Cyrus + Liam Hemsworth Broke Up?
Rumors have been circling that Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have broken up… but did we just finally get confirmation that the rumors are true?
Amid swirls of chatter saying that Liam Hemsworth cheated on Miley Cyrus with Betty Draper January Jones at a pre-Oscar party several weeks ago comes confirmation that the pair has called it quits… or have they?
This little tidbit has been floating around for a little while now, but according to the New York Post’s Page Six, multiple sources have confirmed to them that Miley and Liam have indeed called off their engagement. Said one source, “Miley and Liam are done; it’s over. She likes to party really hard and can be pretty wild. It became a problem for him”; said a second, “They have broken up before, and are broken up again now. There was drama because she suspected he had a wondering eye. And she recently Tweeted a denial that he cheated. While Miley has insisted they are still together, right now they are very, very much apart.”
And if what we’ve seen from the couple is anything to do by, there might be at least a touch of truth in the gossip. They are, at any rate, not in the same location right now; Liam is currently taking a break to visit family and friends in his native Australia (and, some are saying, to get away from Miley), while Miley was recently spotted outside her record studio without her engagement ring.
Of course, though, we also have to bear in mind that this is Page Six we’re talking about here. Page Six did acknowledge that neither Miley’s nor Liam’s reps had gotten back to them yet about the possible split, but perhaps more damning is the fact that no other celeb news sites (including the more reliable ones, like People) have reported confirmation yet. We still wonder, though, because… well, that’s what we do.
When rumors of Liam’s alleged game of hanky-panky first started kicking up last week, she Tweeted in response:
However, given how active her Twitter feed has been since then, it looks like she hasn’t actually, y’know, taken a break from social media at all. If we read what’s probably way too far into this, we can infer that if she says she’s taking a break from social media, but doesn’t, then maybe it’s also true that if she says that the engagement is still on, it’s not. The thing that does sort of suck for Miley is that no matter what she did in response to the cheating rumors, the public would assume it meant that they were accurate: She denied it, prompting an “Oh, she said they haven’t called off their engagement? It must be true and she’s trying to hide it!” reaction; whereas if she stayed silent, the general response would probably have been something like, “She hasn’t said anything about the rumors? They must be true and she doesn’t want to acknowledge it!”
The bottom line: We’re still not totally sure. Until we get confirmation from Miley, Liam, their reps, or more reputable sources, it might still be nothing more than a rumor. We can’t say we’d be surprised if it DID end up being true, but we’ll withhold judgment until we’ve gotten something more concrete.
