Allison Williams

She’s starring on a hit television show… she’s landed her first endorsement deal… Wouldn’t we kill to be Allison Williams right about now! Luckily for us, we can take a few pages out of her beauty book thanks to the New York Times’ T Magazine. The Girls star recently chatted with T about her character Marnie’s makeup on the show, her biggest beauty goof, and more. Curious? You can check out the whole interview here, but we’ve assembled some highlights for your reading pleasure.

On being a beauty junkie:

Noted Allison, “I’ve put on makeup just for fun since I was a really little girl. Now I keep a look book for inspiration—with hair, makeup, beauty tips and products to try.” About her look book, she said, “I have been collection, just tearing things out of magazines for years and years and years. I always hoped I would be in a place I would learn how to do stuff like this by myself, or would be able to work with people who could do it.” Once she started looking at the way clothing can both change the way you look and broadcast something about yourself, she started thinking, “How could I wear this?” or “How could I pull off that look?”

On Marnie’s beauty look:

“The show is shot so intimately that if we were wearing too much makeup, it wouldn’t work,” Allison said of Girls. She continued, “At the beginning of Season 1, I wore false lashes. But after two weeks, they said the shooting style was too intimate and they were too visible, so off they went. That was fine with me; then I had no fear of them falling on my face.” Allison herself, however, likes to wear false lashes sometimes for events.

On the advantages of being ambidextrous:

Wondering how Allison gets her hair so sleek and smooth? The actress said that she’s “gotten quite good” at giving herself blow-outs, to which she credits her ambidexterity. “I often wonder why people’s hair looks lopsided. It’s because it’s hard to reach both sides of your hair,” she added. Man, do we wish we were in her boat!

On her worst beauty mistakes:

“At some point in high school, I realized people used eyebrow pencils, but I thought eyeliner could do the same thing,” Allison recalled. “I used black eyeliner to do my brows. It looked awful. It didn’t look that different from when they did Hannah’s on the show.” Yikes!

On her can’t-live-without-it products:

Besides Simple Skincare’s products, she loves Essie nail polish , Bliss vanilla and bergamot body butter, Laura Mercier concealer, and Tarte mascara. Her splurge: Armani foundation . She called it “an investment,” but noted that “when you need it to work, it works.”

On upcoming events:

Allison is super psyched for the Met Ball. “The theme is punk,” she said, “so I’ve been doing a lot of research. I’ve been looking through Sex Pistols photography, pictures of Vivienne Westwood. I’m really excited to commit to that theme.”
