First Look: Leonardo DiCaprio + More in ‘The Great Gatsby’ Character Posters
New character posters for Baz Lurhmann’s upcoming film adaptaion of ‘The Great Gatsby’ give us a closer look at Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and more!
We’re just a little over a month away from the release of Baz Luhrmann’s hotly anticipated adaptation of The Great Gatsby—and what better way to gear up for it than with some gorgeous new images? Warner Bros. has just released six brand-spanking-new character posters depicting the film’s major players at their Art Deco best. Love!
I first spotted these babies on Reddit over the weekend; since then, they’ve begun making the rounds, so of course we couldn’t resist sharing them with you. The posters feature Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan, Joel Edgerton as Tom Buchanan, Isla Fisher as Myrtle Wilson, Elizabeth Debicki as Jordan Baker—and of course Leonardo DiCaprio as the titular Jay Gatsby, seen above.
All of the images are framed in gold and looking super intense; furthermore, if you look carefully at the backgrounds, they’ll give you a little bit of a deeper look into the characters framed against them. Playing off of the color motifs threaded through F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel, for example, Gatsby is shown highlighted against a green light; the yellow car lurks in Myrtle’s background; and so on and so forth. FirstShowing.net also points out that Leo’s Gatsby is the only character with the frame on the left side of the image, setting him apart from the rest. Iiiiiiiiinteresting. Well played, Gatsby team!
Will the movie be any good? Hard to say; maybe this is just me, but Baz Luhrmann can be kind of hit or miss (I love Moulin Rouge, but Romeo + Juliet is my least favorite version of the play EVER). Either way, though, we can be sure that this Gatsby will be full of rich visuals and a heart-pumping soundtrack. Be sure to catch it in the cinemas on May 10!
