Could Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries Be Headed for a Divorce Settlement?

We’re all sick of hearing about Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphrie’s never-ending divorce—but is there a light at the tunnel for us? Maybe!

Kim Kardashian Kris Humphries

It’s been a year and a half since their split, but Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries are still fighting it out. Are we surprised? Not really, but we kind of wish they’d just get it over with already.

But hey, maybe they finally will! According to TMZ, Kim and Kris have been called into court for a settlement conference today, and if all goes well, they could settle their issues by the end of the day.

TMZ’s sources say that Kris has lately been “softening his position.” There are apparently a number of reasons he’s having second thoughts, but the biggest is this: Most of us (myself included) are probably still of the opinion that the marriage was a sham in the first place, but even if it was, calling it a fraud from a legal standpoint is an entirely different matter—which is what Kris (he’s seeking an annulment based on fraud, you’ll remember). However, even though depositions and legal documents have been flying fast and furious, no evidence that Kim defrauded him has actually surfaced, which puts his entire argument on incredibly shaky ground. Not so good, amiright?

Other factors allegedly at play include the following:

- Unsurprisingly, Kim put quite the prenup into place before they got married; as such, if the case goes to trial, Kris will get absolutely no money from her.

- Kris was a no-shown at the last hearing, which has both hit him with monetary sanctions and royally ticked off the judge who would be presiding over the trial.

- If the case goes to trial and Kris loses, he’s going to owe a LOT of money in attorney’s fees—as much as $1,000,000. According to TMZ’s sources, each side has already spent about $300K in lawyer’s fees; they’ll rack up another $200K each if the case goes to trial. Additionally, word on the street has it that if the case goes to trial and Kim wins, she’s going to petition to make Kris front the bill for her lawyer’s fees, too. Ouch.

I kind of can’t help but wish that these two took the Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise route instead of the one they stubbornly insist on following. There are a lot of theories flying around that Katie and Tom’s marriage was a sham, too (wife auditioning, anyone?), but when the divorce finally happened, it was quick and clean—and above all, handled maturely. Kim and Kris, on the other hand, seem to be behaving even more like children than they usually do.

Ah well—neither Kim nor Kris is known for their smarts, so we’ll just have to wait it out.

Tell us: Do you think Kim and Kris will settle, or will the case just get messier from here on out?
