We might not be able to shell out the cash for our favorite designers’ spring lines, but soon, we’ll be able to indulge in a bit of guilt-free eBay bidding (excited yet?). We’ve already fallen for this one-of-a-kind collection of hearts for Haiti, which features pieces from Monique Lhuillier, Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, and 147 more of fashion’s heavy hitters.
Spearheaded by Donna Karan (DKNY donated the papier-mäché hearts that the designers customized), funds from each piece sold will go to economic development programs through Urban Zen’s Haitian Artisan Project. Haiti continues to rebuild after a devastating 2010 earthquake killed an estimated 300,000 people and displaced 1.5 million.
“Change can only occur when people come together,” Karan said in a message on Fashion for Haiti: One Million Hearts’ auction page. “By bringing together CFDA’s community of designers to re-imagine one of a kind hearts and providing a place for them to be sold through the leading charitable giving platform, eBay, we are amplifying the message that we, collectively, believe in the resurrection of Haiti…To me, these unique hearts are a reflection of Haitian culture and its vibrant, dynamic and deeply artistic people.”
The auction will run from April 22 to May 2 –see you on eBay!
