By now, we’ve all seen the promos for MTV’s My Super Sweet 16 that earned Jennifer Lawrence her SAG card —but are you ready for another blast from the past? Because you’re about to get one.
Our girl JLaw makes occasional mention of her early career days as a teen model. A few months ago during an appearance on Conan, she revealed, “I did stuff for Abercombie and Fitch, but you’d never know because none of my pictures ever got released.” Why? Her agent eventually emailed Abercrombie to ask why they never used them, and instead of sending a proper, worded reply, they just sent over the photos themselves. Long story short: “I realized that they were modeling football, and I was really playing football.” Watch the full interview when you get a chance—there’s a lot more to the story and it’s REALLY FUNNY, so you totally owe it to yourself to do so.
Anyway, with that little tale as a lead in, there’s also this: The NY Daily News recently managed to get a hold of some of Jennifer’s modeling shots from waaaaaaaaay back (although not, alas, the Abercrombie ones—we’re assuming those ones will be staying in the vault under lock and key for as long as Jennifer can possibly keep them there). In them, the Oscar winner poses for Louisville photographer Chris Kaufman, who was also Jennifer’s agent when she was twelve years old. Said Kaufman, “Jennifer had a maturity beyond her years”—a trait which has stood her in good stead throughout her acting career.
There are LOADS of photos over at the NY Daily News, so head over there to check ‘em out. Click through for a few of our favorites:
