It’s always been a game of musical (see what we did there?) chairs when it comes to who fills the judge’s seats on American Idol—but Bettys, brace yourselves, because we’re about to lose the one mainstay we’ve had throughout the show’s twelve-year history: Randy Jackson is stepping down at the end of the current season.
I’m not sure which is more mind-blowing: The fact that Idol has been on for twelve years or that Randy is leaving it after all this time.
Randy released a statement yesterday to break the news: “Yo! Yo! Yo!,” he began (classic Randy). “To put all of the speculation to rest, after twelve years of judging on American Idol I have decided it is time to leave after this season. I am very proud of how we forever changed television and the music industry. It’s been a life changing opportunity but I am looking forward to focusing on my company Dream Merchant 21 and other business ventures.”
So alas, we must bid Randy farewell and wish him the best on all his other ventures (of which there are many). In the meantime, who do you think will replace him? For that matter, will Fox be keeping the three remaining judges, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, and Keith Urban? Word on the street has it that the show might get a whole new panel for season 13 to give the show a much-needed jolt of new energy.
In any event, we’re down to season 12’s final two; Candice Glover and Kree Harrison will face off (voice off? Whatever) on May 16. Who will walk away the winner? We’ll just have to wait and see!
Tell us: Who do you think will replace Randy in the judge’s seat?
