SSG-Earrings

Our summer reading list just keeps growing longer and longer—and we can’t wait to settle down at the beach with an umbrella, a cold drink, and our stack of must-reads at our side!

Our latest discovery is A Spear of Summer Grass by New York Times bestselling author Deanna Raybourn. What’s it about? Combine the glamour of The Great Gatsby with the romance of Out of Africa, and you’ve got a pretty good idea of what to expect. Here’s the dish:

Beginning in 1920s Paris before moving to the wilds of Africa,  A Spear of Summer Grass tells the story of Delilah Drummond. Delilah’s many-times-married mother has lived a scandalous existence—but when Delilah’s own latest scandal turns out to be big enough to make even her mother blanch, she finds herself exiled from Paris until the gossip subsides. Delilah travels to Kenya to bide her time at her favorite stepfather’s savannah manor house in Kenya—and amidst the wonders and dangers of Africa, she awakens to a land of darkness, beauty, and joy that cuts to her very heart. Only when this sacred place is profaned by bloodshed does Delilah discover what is truly worth fighting for—and what she can no longer live without.

Sounds fabulous, no? And here’s the best part: In honor of the book’s release, we’ve got a fabulous prize pack to give away to one of our loyal Bettys!

I would see the parts of the USA that I haven't seen. I would climb into my little Travel Hovel and set down the roads to adventure with no agenda – just go wherever my whims take me. I have seen some most fascinating sites that I would not otherwise have seen using this method – the only parameters are the starting date and the ending date. Then we just drive, camp, and visit wonderful places.
