A Mom’s Perspective:
Diana Trotter, AllWomenStalk.com
Parents need to understand that their college graduate isn’t having any easier of a time about moving back home than they are. They have already gone out into the world and tasted freedom; they don’t want to move backwards and have someone in their face telling them what to do all the time.
However, the college graduate also needs to understand that she will have responsibilities helping around the house or even paying rent when she moves back home. She must also respect that mom and dad are still head of the house, and what they say goes.
Sit down together with your college grad to talk about what she wants and what you want. Then sit down together as a family if there are other children in the house to discuss how everyone feels about the new living arrangements; remember, communication is key.
