We’ve been hearing about the upcoming Princess Diana biopic for a while now—from the early reports that Jessica Chastain had been cast as Lady Di in what was then known as Caught in Flight to the first look we got at Naomi Watts in the role last summer. The finished film, now simply called Diana, is finally set to hit cinemas this fall, and hey, look! The first teaser trailer has dropped! Check it out here:
It’s actually a pretty artfully done trailer—the use of the press’ flashbulbs goes from glitzy and glamorous to intrusive and overwhelming, which I would imagine mirrors what the film is trying to accomplish in moving behind Diana’s public image and examining her real-life struggles. The synopsis according to the film’s official website reads, “When Princess Diana flew to Pakistan in May 1997, she went to meet the family of Dr. Hasnat Khan, the man she wanted to marry. One of the most famous and beautiful women in the world, she hoped to persuade Dr. Khan’s mother that she would make a suitable wife for her son. Had she succeeded, the events of that summer might have been very different… A love story about family, friendship and the calamity of fame.” Could be interesting, no? Also, Lost’s Naveen Andrews is playing Dr. Khan; he’s always worth watching as is Naomi, of course), so we’re pretty sure Diana will be one to watch out for.
Although no US release date has been set yet, we can probably look forward to getting one soon. Diana will premiere in the UK on September 20, 2013.
Tell us: Will you be seeing Diana when it hits theaters?
