Demi Lovato has been an inspiration to countless numbers of girls around the world. After she battled an eating disorder, depression, and feelings of self-harm –and won– Demi penned a moving piece about “the pressure that’s out there to meet impossible standards” for Seventeen.com. The pop star also took action through a partnership with the Jed Foundation, a mental health and suicide prevention organization aimed at college students, for its Love Is Louder Than the Pressure To Be Perfect movement.
And now, the “Heart Attack” songstress is encouraging Mattel to create a Barbie that reflects her body type. She tweeted to 14 million+ followers:
Glamour.com points out that Barbie’s oft-criticized body proportions would neither hold her organs nor allow her to walk upright if she were a living, breathing woman. The ball is now in Mattel’s court, and though it doesn’t seem likely they’ll follow suit with a Demi doll, we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed.
In the meantime, fans are urging Mattel to get to work on the doll by tweeting @BarbieStyle. Here are a few of their best tweets:
You go, girls!
