In what could be one of the best Hunger Games franchise decisions ever, it’s rumored that Julianne Moore might take on the role of President Alma Coin, who features prominently in Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2.
The 52-year-old British-American actress certainly has the resume to make President Coin (almost) as unforgettable as the Girl on Fire. Production company Lionsgate and director Francis Lawrence are reportedly in talks with the Emmy-winning actress, who has gained acclaim for her role as a lesbian mother in The Kids are All Right (2010) and portrayal of 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin in Game Change (2012).
As Hypable points out, Woody Harrelson a.k.a. Haymitch starred alongside the flame-haired actress in the aforementioned Game Change, so it’s quite possible we’ll see the two of them reunited on the set of Mockingjay.
In case you’ve been living under a rock (we suggest you join us soon, Hunger Games trilogy in hand), Ms. Coin leads District 13, a region of post-apocalyptic North America thought to be uninhabitable after its destruction by the evil Capitol. Despite desiring to bring the greedy, child-murdering Capitol to its knees, she isn’t exactly the ideal leader.
Fans, mark your calendars: Catching Fire’s second trailer is slated for a must-anticipated showing at San Diego Comic Con in July. The film will hit theaters on November 22, 2013 with Mockingjay Part 1 to follow on November 21, 2014. Let’s hope Ms. Moore gets to transform into President Coin (only for the movie). May the odds be ever in her favor!
