You guys. Julianne Moore went blonde. Way, WAY blonde. But… we love her red hair!
Okay, okay, to be fair, she looks… well, fine; but she doesn’t look quite like herself, and for that reason, we’re giving this a “not” on the hot or not scale. What do you think, Bettys? For reference, here’s the flame-haired gal we all know and love:
Luckily, though, Julianne’s new shade isn’t a result of her suddenly deciding that blondes have more fun; it’s for her new film, Maps to the Stars, which she’s currently shooting in Toronto. Written by Bruce Wagner and directed by David Cronenberg, the film focuses on the lives of two former child stars and their families; Julianne plays Havana, an actress who dreams of shooting a remake of the movie that made her mother a star in the ‘60s. Although Maps to the Stars has had something of a fraught production process—Wagner and Cronenberg originally tried to make it a number of years ago, only to have it fall through—but we’re glad it’s finally a go. Said Julianne during a press event for the film back in the spring, “It’s not only about celebrity culture, but the pursuit of fame at any cost…. There’s this weird disconnect that the celebrity culture enforces and I don’t know how we got there. I feel like it happened really rapidly, too, because when I started out as an actor, it wasn’t quite the same.” Intriguing, no?
The last time Julianne went blonde was for 2008’s Blindness; after she finished filming it and was able to go back to her redheaded roots, she told the Guardian, “I couldn’t wait to get back to my normal color… I got so much attention I couldn’t stand it.” This means we can probably assume that she’ll be returning to her regular fiery shade as soon as she possibly can. Hoorah!
Shooting for Maps to the Stars wraps on August 12; it co-stars John Cusack, Mia Wasikowska, and Robert Pattinson and is due to hit cinemas sometime in 2014.
Tell us: Is Julianne’s new hair color hot or not?
