Given the fact that Katy Perry never appears anywhere without her face plastered in makeup, I feel like I really shouldn’t be surprised by this little tidbit… and yet I still am: According to an interview with WWD, the singer spends a whopping 90 minutes on her face in the morning. Yikes!
The interview is part of the promotional campaign for Katy’s new fragrance, Killer Queen. “I’m a product whore,” she tells the magazine (she has such a way with words, doesn’t she?); “I have a [beauty] regimen that spans an hour and a half, and nothing goes out of order”—which, she admits, can be tricky to pull off “if you’re sleeping over at a new boyfriend’s house.” One can only hope that she doesn’t lug her entire makeup collection with her every time she leaves her house. How DO you explain the rolling suitcase set full of beauty products you just happen to be wheeling behind you to a potential hookup, anyway?
I don’t know about you, Bettys, but I kind of want to know exactly what this 90-minute beauty regimen entails. Does she use a scrub in addition to a cleanser? Is she a toner devotee? How does she decide on her color palette? Is there a rubric to help determine how much glitter should or shouldn’t be used? What happens if she accidentally goes out of order? Does she have to start all over again? How much additional time does her hair require? So many questions!
Anyhoo, for the curious, Katy’s Killer Queen fragrance’s top notes are fruity, including wild berry, dark plum, and bergamot; the heart it a tiny bit more floral, with notes of red velvet flower, natural jasmine sambac, and rainbow plumeria; and the drydown consists of cashmeran, natural patchouli heart, and liquid praline. Says the singer of of the scent’s name, “Killer Queen has been in my vocabulary since I was 15, because of the song ‘Killer Queen’ by Queen. Freddie Mercury painted the lyrics of this woman who I wanted to be. She seemed very powerful, and she captivated a room when she walked in. I named my company Killer Queen after those lyrics. I feel like, after all this time, it was appropriate to use that name in association with something I did. I feel like I’m falling, finally, into that woman Freddie painted.” Katy’s Killer Queen launches in August.
