There are some things we’ll never understand. How anyone could deliberately douse a one-pound, five-week-old kitten in an accelerant and set him ablaze is one of those things.
Back in April of this year, a man named Damaris Alcala discovered this little guy in unimaginable pain on a Kensington, Philadelphia street.
“It was crying when I was picking him up, but when I moved him in the back, he was screaming,” Alcala told WPI-TV.
As any good person would do (at least we hope), he reported the horrific attack to the Pennsylvania SPCA. An SPCA spokesman later reported that the wide-eyed tuxedo kitten suffered burns on over a third of his body. Justin’s abuser has yet to be brought to justice.
And this is where Justin’s story takes a turn for the better. Cats have nine lives, remember? The Animal Alliance of New Jersey and Crown Veterinary Specialists took charge of his long, arduous recovery. Against the odds, this pint-sized fighter pulled through laser treatment for his severe wounds, ear amputations, and stitches along his back.
The Animal Alliance of New Jersey took to social media in hopes of raising money for Justin’s treatment. His heartbreaking tale inspired approximately 1,000 donors from around the world to give over $20,000 to the non-profit.
Today, Justin is as happy and healthy as any fur baby should be –he can eat, play, snuggle, and find boxes to lounge in on his own– and lives with his adoring foster family. He even has a new friend named Jewel. Ain’t she sweet?
