Beauty Road Test: Urban Decay’s De-Slick Mattifying Powder Is Back + Better Than Ever!

Having trouble keeping your face shine-free this summer? Meet Urban Decay's new-old favorite!

Urban Decay de-slick mattifying powder

Ladies, if you’ve been struggling to keep your face shine-free as much as I have this summer, get ready to meet your new best friend—or, to get introduced to it all over again: Urban Decay’s De-Slick mattifying powder ($32, is back in action!

I know what you’re thinking: “It’s back? I didn’t even know it had gone anywhere!” That’s because this cult favorite wasn’t REALLY gone; it has, however, gotten a sleek makeover and a fabulous re-launch. The formula hasn’t changed a bit—if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!—but the packaging has never looked better. The lux Lucite compact is still there, but there’s a brand new design on top, and the whole thing has been drenched in the brand’s signature dark purple shade.

Don’t be scared off by the powder’s light lilac shade; it goes on invisibly and works on every skin tone. I was even able to test this last point on myself during a weekend at the beach; despite lathering on the SPF, I still ended up with a sunburned nose. Happily, though, the De-Slick powder used in conjunction with a little bit of concealer and foundation managed to even out my reddened schnozz, giving me the same oil-free skin look it did pre-sunburn. Oh, and here’s a fun little bonus: The applicator puff that’s included in the compact sticks to the mirror, so you never have to worry about opening it up and having the applicator fall out and hit either you or the floor (or both).

I’ve been setting my foundation and eye shadow with it in the morning; then I’ve been giving my nose and forehead a quick swipe a couple of times throughout the day as needed (which, given how long my days are, are impressively few and far between). The lightweight, super absorbent formula is made from rice powder—so unlike most pressed powders that can mix with your skin’s natural oils and cake up your face, De-Slick absorbs oil completely to banish shine. Plus, it’s infused with green tea extract to soothe and calm even the most sensitive of skin. The result? A matte yet totally natural-looking complexion that will stay with you throughout even the hottest summer weather. It’s a miracle!

Urban Decay’s De-Slick mattifying powder can be found at Sephora, ULTA, and select Macy’s stores nationwide; you can also snap it up for yourself at,,,, and Oh, and stay tuned, because we’ve got some more fabulous Urban Decay goodies to tell you about soon!

  1. Hey! Thank you, I was confused why are there two different packaging. This new one looks better imo, I love how being broke can give you time to discover things and keep me from impulse-buying things I don't really want! 🙂
