While the tabloids do their usual obsessing over Miley and Liam’s supposedly on-again, off-again relationship or Kim’s post-pregnancy style (or lack thereof), Catherine Bennett is writing, singing, and dancing her way to pop stardom.
According to The Independent, Taylor Houchen, a creative 9-year-old Cambridge girl, came up with the idea for Catherine to combat a media saturated with the scantily-clad, scandal-ridden celebrities tween girls (sadly) idolize today. The spunky, curly blond-haired star pens songs about everything from polar bears to friendship to space travel. She loves dinosaurs, her bicycle, and tuna pasta and works at a museum. Can you say coolest chick ever?
So, who gets to portray Ms. Bennett? Performance artist Bryony Kimmings, also known as Aunt Bryony to little Taylor. Aww!
“I wanted Catherine to make children believe that anything is possible and that music can be about having fun,” Taylor told The Independent. “I am so excited when I get to see CB now as she has come to life. This project is fun and it makes me happy.”
With financial support from The Arts Council, Taylor and Bryony have taken their project to YouTube, Tumblr, Facebook, Twitter, and United Kingdom schools. CB’s first dino-filled hit, Apathy, which was filmed at The Manchester Museum, currently boasts over 6,000 plays on YouTube.
