Cara Delevingne may only be 21 years old (she just celebrated her birthday yesterday—happy belated B-day, Cara!), but her career is moving full steam ahead—and not just in the fashion world, either: Rumor has that the British model just auditioned for a role in the upcoming 50 Shades of Grey movie adaptation. Good news? Bad news? Indifferent news? You be the judge!
According to yet another UK tabloid (big day for the tabloids, no?), the Sun, via the Daily Mail, Cara is “a front-runner for a part.” The Sun’s source revealed that Cara is “desperate to get the gig and has always said that she wanted to be taken seriously as an actress.”
Hmmm. Hmmmmmmmmm. Cara isn’t a total newbie to acting—she had a small role in the recent film adaptation of Anna Karenina, during which she reportedly became friends with Aaron Taylor-Johnson—which perhaps just causes the plot to thicken, as Aaron is married to 50 Shades’ director, Sam Taylor-Johnson. It’s thought, however, that if Cara is indeed up for a role in the sure-to-be-steamy flick, she ISN’T vying for its leading lady, Anastasia Steele. Continued the Sun’s source, “[Cara] is a global icon now and a good actress as well and Sam wants her in the movie—though which part exactly hasn’t been established…. [Cara’s] agent has also been talking to Kelly Marcel, the screenplay writer [sic]. And, if needs be, a strong role will be written in for her.”
That… seems a little weird to me. The thing about working with an existing story is that you have to be careful when it comes to adaptation. Making changes because the original choices work on the page, but not on the screen? A-OK. Making changes to force a round peg into a square hole? Not so good. Then again, this is 50 Shades of Grey we’re talking about here, AND the information is coming from a notorious tabloid, soooooo… yeah.
Anyhoo, thoughts, 50 Shades fans? Yea or nay on Cara Delevingne—and who might she be playing?
