Beauty Road Test: Yes to Grapefruit’s CC Cream Has Made a Believer Out of Me

Or, in which I try my very first CC cream—and love it! Get the lowdown on Yes to Grapefruit’s offering here!

Confession: I haven’t hopped on the alphabet cream bandwagon yet. BB cream? CC cream? DD cream? Most of the time, I couldn’t even tell you want the letters stand for, let alone what the products are supposed to do. But when the good people of Yes To (whose products I ADORE) sent me their new Yes to Grapefruit CC cream ($15.99, yestocarrots.com), I figured now was as good a time as any to give it a shot.

And I cannot TELL you how glad I am that I did, because I think I just found my new go-to foundation/concealer/sunscreen/everything else face goody.

Since I was still pretty in the dark about the differences between CC creams and all the other double letter creams out there, I decided to educate myself first. For those of you who also haven’t hitherto been super concerned with what it all means, here it is in a nutshell: BB (or “beauty balm”) creams were originally designed to take place of the myriad different products we use on our faces in the morning—serums, moisturizers, primers, and foundations. CC (“color correcting”) creams are kind of the next generation of BB creams, retaining all their predecessors’ benefits while adding some nifty new ones: Namely, sun protection, better coverage, and treatment of uneven skin tones. They’re also a little lighter than BB creams tend to be. So: Does Yes to Grapefruit’s entry deliver on all these promises? In a word: YES.

Like all Yes to Grapefruit formulas, this CC cream is 95 percent natural, blending powerful fruit acids with ingredients proven to reduce hyper-pigmentation, correct skin damage, and enhance radiance. The anti-oxidants, vitamin C, and lycopene in grapefruit help increase skin radiance and even out your skin tone, promoting healthy, smoother, softer-looking skin; meanwhile, a dose of evodia fruit boosts skin’s microcirculation to improve color, luminosity, and texture. They’re also packed with SPF 18 for broad spectrum coverage, protecting your skin from UVA and UVB rays while simultaneously hydrating and moisturizing to keep you feel supple and fresh all day long.

So one morning last week, I replaced my usual concealer-with-a-touch-of-foundation routine with an application of the Yes to Grapefruit CC cream in Light (I’m super, SUPER pale. Not vampire pale, but close)—and I was ASTOUNDED at the results. Seriously. “Flawless” is not usually a word I use to describe my skin, since it’s generally sort of… um… NOT—but with the careful application of this CC cream plus a dusting of Urban Decay’s De-Slick mattifying powder  to finish it off, “flawless” is exactly the result I got. AND it stayed like that all frickin’ day, even in the middle of summer.

Right now, Yes to Grapefruit’s CC cream is only available in light and light-medium shades,; here’s hoping that a whole range of colors is on the way, though, because every skin tone should get the chance to benefit from this fabulous creation. Snag it for yourself at Target, Walmart, Walgreens, and Ulta stores nationwide, as well as at yestocarrots.com, amazon.com, and drugstore.com.

There are a lot of very effective pieces of equipment to use at home, but i agree that it is the basic elements such as a good diet and proper workout form that will lead to the desired results, no matter where you are working out from
