I can’t believe we’re still talking about Miley Cyrus’ MTV VMAs performance two whole weeks after the fact, but for some reason, we are—although this time, at least it’s sort of hilarious. Rumor has it that Miley’s planned Vogue cover for December has been cancelled by Anna Wintour; apparently the VMAs twerktastrophy was so hideous that apparently dear Anna just couldn’t bring herself to feature the “We Can’t Stop” singer on the cover of her beloved magazine.
Not going to lie: I just snorted in my coffee a little bit. Because BAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
An anonymous source speaking to the Daily Mail over the weekend said, “Anna found the whole thing distasteful. She decided, based on Miley’s performance to take the cover in a different direction.”
Since this is the Daily Mail, however, we would be amiss if we didn’t approach this little tidbit with a healthy amount of skepticism; Refinery29, for example, did a little digging and found that not only had the cover never been set in stone, but moreover, that a photo shoot for it hadn’t even happened yet. It seems that Vogue was toying with the idea of a Miley-based cover, but ultimately vetoed the idea. Whether or not the VMAs disaster had anything to do with the magazine scrapping the idea remains to be seen, but whatevs.
Miley, meanwhile, can still be seen rocking couture in the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar, so if that’s what she’s going for when it comes to promoting her new “image,” then at least she’s got one major glossy under her belt.
That’s not stopping me from having a glorious mental image of Anna Wintour watching the VMAs while making a face like this:
