Florence Welch

The gorgeous, supremely talented Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine took the music industry by storm with her powerhouse vocals and haunting lyrics. And now, with the release of her second album Ceremonials, out today(!), countless admirers are scouring the net for the scoop on this lady in the spotlight.

So, in honor of this sure-to-be-smokin’ new release, here are 25 facts to feed our little red-haired obsession.

1. Florence Welch was born on August 28, 1986, in South London, making her a mere 25 years old!

2. It seems that success was in the stars for this lucky lady! The young singing sensation’s mother, Evelyn, is a Harvard-educated historian and author, and her father, Nick, is an executive at an advertising firm.

3. Florence also has serious writing skills in her blood: she’s the granddaughter of former Daily Telegraph Deputy Editor Colin Welch.

4. Florence is commonly referred to as “Flo,” a nickname that flows rather well.

5. When this famed singer was a kid, she used to transform old cereal boxes into small dollhouses complete with miniature chairs and windows.

6. After each singing lesson, which she started at the age of 11, Florence would request to sing “Spooky” by Dusty Springfield– a strange choice after learning French and Italian arias. Florence explained to the Telegraph, “It was a weird mix and I think that’s where the difference in my range comes from.”

7. After her parents separated when Florence was 13, her mother fell head over heels for a neighbor. Florence, her mother, and two sisters moved in with him…and his three kids! “It was like the Brady Bunch,” Welch told the Telegraph.

8. In her teen years, this gal was a fan of Nirvana and Green Day– even getting all decked out in official merch for their shows.

9. Florence’s first band was called the Toxic Cockroaches. Yes, really.

10. While attending the Alleyn’s School in London, Florence was diagnosed as dyslexic and dyspraxic. “I was just quite absent, mentally as well as most of the time physically,” she told the Telegraph.

11. But that didn’t stop the determined teenaged Flo from attending Camberwell College of Arts to pursue illustration.

12. The flame-haired singer was quite the oddball even while in school: she designed a 6-foot tall faux flower installation that read “You’re a Twat” as a project for one of her courses.

13. Though this gal is known for her incredible vocals, she is also talented with instruments. Her first instrument: the drums!

Florence is one of my most favorite singer. Her songs are not easy to sing as she has got an exceptional voice. I am learning some of her singing techniques from birmingham singing lessons and I hope I will be able to sing like her in few months.
