Michelle Obama1. She was born January 17, 1964, meaning she will turn 45 three days before she becomes the First Lady of the United States.

2. Her father worked the swing shift in the boiler room at Chicago’s water purification plant; her mother was a stay-at-home mom until her two children were grown.

3. Within the family, her nickname is “Miche” (pronounced “Meesh”).

4. Her husband calls her “My Rock”.

5. She grew up with her older brother, Craig, and parents in a one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment; she and Craig shared the living room, which had been separated by dividers.

    Thanks for this info–especially the tidbits about her as a girl because it reminds you that even though she is about to become First Lady, she grew up with some of the same experiences as the rest of us. The memorization of The Brady Bunch episodes is hysterical!

    What happened to the results of the “What Women Think” poll about interest in Michelle Obama?

    I’m familiar with almost all of the above facts, but here is a new one: The hospital where Michelle earned $300,000 annually–a job that she got after Barack was elected to the Senate–is not replacing her. Draw whatever conclusions you wish about how important that job must have been.

    It could also be that the hospital is cutting back, like so many other organizations. Even important jobs are on the chopping block… heavens even whole businesses are on the chopping block

    patriciaw, the hospital cut back on one job in particular, because the job was given to someone who was married to a senator who could–and did–steer millions to the hospital, and she has a new position now.

    Yeah I’m sure Michelle had a really hard time finding a job, what with her Ivy League education and all. She’s smart, talented, highly educated — why would a hospital want to hire her? Meow is right!
