They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I say beauty is in the eye of the one who’s being beholded, even though that’s not a word but it should be. And I’m talking about physical beauty here not, you know, that all important beauty that comes from within — just plain old DAYUM GIRL look at me in the mirror pretty-feelingness. Some days you feel pretty; some days you don’t — why? Who knows. Whenever those ugly days / moments happen, it’s good to know what DOES make you feel beautiful so you can get out of your frump slump, stat. Here are some of the things that never fail to make me feel bee-yew-tee-full:
1. Spending time with my friend Amy.
To badly paraphrase Taylor Swift (uh, sorry … everyone?) — you’ll never know my story like Amy do. Amy is the girl who KNOWS me — from before I moved to NYC, before I became a mama, before I had this annoying sun spot on my face that I REALLY need to go get taken care of AUGH. She’s the girl who coined the term “Stigmaties” to refer to the shoes we loved to wear but that literally made our feet bleed, the girl who constantly got ALL dressed up with absolutely no place to go with me, the girl who knew me when I could roll out of bed on 45 minutes sleep, slap on some lipgloss and still look darn cute at work all day (making lattes thank you very much). We’re all growns up now (theoretically), and no longer share a closet or even a coast, but when we do spend time together, I feel as if no time has gone by since we first met, realized we were soul mates, and could both fit into her red satin hooker pants.
Dinner with Amy last year to celebrate my 36th. YES THAT’S NOT A TYPO I love this picture! Great lighting, a flattering DVF top that I immediately stole right out of Amy’s suitcase, a chocolate dessert, and the youthful glow of just having spent 8 hours down memory lane. Perfection!
