Japanese Cocktails

The drinks featured in renowned cocktail expert Yuri Kato’s new book, Japanese Cocktails, are all made with exotic flavors that are unique to Japan and its traditional spirits culture. So, if you’re looking to deviate from your usual rum and coke order this weekend, try sipping on one of these delectable recipes instead.

Melon Cream Soda

Melon Cream Soda

Ingredients:

1 oz (30 ml) Midori Melon Liqueur

1 ½ oz (45 ml) Citrus- flavored Vodka

3 oz (90 ml) Club Soda

1 Scoop Vanilla Ice Cream

Melon slice for Garnish

Preparation:

1. Mix all liquid in a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour into a tall glass. Top with vanilla ice cream. Garnish with melon slice. 

Black Ship

Ingredients:Black Ship

1 ½ oz (45 ml) Hibiki 12 Year Old

1 oz (30 ml) Pomegranate Juice

¼ oz (7 ml) Port

1 tsp (5 ml) Lemon Juice

Lemon peel for garnish

Preparation:

1. Mix all ingredients except lemon peel in a cocktail shaker with ice.  Strain into a chilled martini glass, garnish with lemon peel and serve.

Maneki-Tini

Ingredients:Maneki-Tini

1 ½ oz (45 ml) Hibiki 12 Year Old

1 tsp Sweet Vermouth

¼ oz (7 ml) Cherry Brandy

Maraschino Cherry for Garnish

Preparation:

1. Mix all ingredients except cherry in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with maraschino cherry and serve.

    OH FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!! That Maneki-Tini is a variation on a MANHATTAN!!! A perfectly respectable drink, but NOTHING LIKE A MARTINI!! I’m tired of every cocktail that doesn’t have ice-cream in it being called a martini! Sorry for venting — there, I’m finished.
