Get ready for round two of fabulous First Lady fashion!
President Obama was sworn in for his second term yesterday (oh, okay, so technically he was sworn in on Sunday and yesterday was just the festivities celebrating the fact, but whatever)—and did the Obama ladies dress for the occasion or what? First Lady Michelle Obama and her gorgeous new bangs arrived wearing a collarless blue checked coat by Thom Browne with an ultra-flattering fit-and-flare silhouette. According to the New York Times’ Eric Wilson, Made of silk jacquard, the coat as well as the dress hiding underneath it were made of silk jacquard and based on a necktie design. She belted the coat with a jeweled belt from J. Crew and accessorized with a necklace by Cathy Waterman, black tights and Reed Krakoff boots, and a pair of purple gloves for a pop of color.
This isn’t the first time FLOTUS has sported Thom Browne, by the way; for the third presidential debate back in October as well as at the DNC in September, she wore a stunning grey dress with a black lace overlay from the designer. Both the grey dress and the blue coat were custom made for Michelle.
The two younger Obama gals, Malia (14) and Sasha (11), likewise pulled out all the fashion stops; Malia went with J. Crew like her mom, including the brand’s Double-cloth Lady coat in Fresh Plum ($325, jcrew.com) and an infinity scarf in a dark rose shade, while Sasha sported a periwinkle coat from Kate Spade with a matching scarf and gloves.
