The bulk of awards season may happen in January and February, but September gets one major show of its own: The Emmy Awards. Didn’t catch the show? No worries—as always, we watch the awards so you don’t have to! We’re still not totally sure why they award the Outstanding Guest Appearance awards during the technical awards, AND why they need to recap them on the actual Primetime Emmys show, but whatever—from the most divalicious member of the Modern Family cast to Amy Poehler’s incredibly distracting cleavage, here are the most memorable moments from the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. Check out the full list of winners here. We salute you, television!
1. The Opening Skit: Or, Why Jimmy Kimmel Can’t Host the Show Tonight
Opening skits can either be hit or miss, but this one pretty firmly a hit, largely due to its inclusion of some of showbiz’s most fantastic women. What happens when Christina Hendricks, Zoe Deschanel, and Kathy Bates find Jimmy Kimmel crying in a stall of the ladies’ room about why he can’t host the Emmys? For that matter, what happens when you add in Connie Briton, Jane Lynch, Lena Dunham, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and just about every other awesome television lady, too? AND the best surprise appearance ever? I will give you only eight words from the mouth of Kathy Bates: “We could punch it back in for you.” Enjoy!
2. Amy Poehler’s Cleavage
Amy and Louis C.K. presented the first award of the night (Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series), and while they were hilarious together, I’ll be honest: Amy’s X-treme cleavage was X-tremely distracting. She made up for it when she pranked the entire show during Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ win for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series (see below: “Amy Poehler Is the Best Troll Ever”). And hey, congrats to Eric Stonestreet of Modern Family for the win!
Up next: The most divalicious member of the ‘Modern Family’ cast (it might surprise you) and more!
