ASK REAL GUYS
Should I Ask Out My Colleague?
Dear ASK REAL GUYS: There is a guy on my job who I'm really interested in. I think he is interested in me also, but he may not know how to approach me, just like I don't know how to approach him. I don't want to say I'm shy, but I really don't know how to handle this. Should I approach him or wait for him to approach me? I have been known to be intimidating to many men, so I'm not sure whether he will 'approach me first. What should I do?
Steven: As long as your company policy allows dating between co-workers and you are not in a power position above him, you could ask him to go to lunch or have drinks after work. Be very careful and tread lightly, as you do not want to create awkwardness at work or a situation that could hurt your career or future. For example: What if you did go out, but then it did not work out and ended badly? Just make sure that you do the right thing and that you can live with the consequences - no matter how things turn out. On the positive side, there are many people who have met, dated and even married people they met at work.
