ASK REAL GUYS

Why Didn't He Show Up for Our Date?

Dear ASK REAL GUYS: I have been communicating with a guy online for the past three weeks. We have never talked on the phone only because he never asked for my phone number. I normally will give someone my cell phone only if they ask or if they are interested in me. Before we decided to set up our first date, he asked when we could go to dinner. We finally decided to meet this week at a particular restaurant that is an equal distance between from where we each live. The day of the date, I confirmed with him that we had our date that evening and that we were meeting between 8-8:15 p.m. I had given my cell phone number to him about a week earlier so he'd know how to reach me. When 8:40 p.m. came along, he still wasn't there. I checked with the hostess, looked in the lounge and walked around the restaurant - still no sign. The whole time I was waiting in the lobby area so I could see everyone walking in. When I got home, he sent me a message saying, "I just got home from the restaurant; I guess you found something better to do." In my response, I told him the same thing that I just wrote here. I did not get a response back from him, nor did he explain when or if he ever showed. I think he didn't go at all but is blaming me for the situation in order to not meet with me. What do you think? I just don't want to make the same mistake again in the future.

Steven: Who knows? Move on, and in the future, make sure to get the guy's contact information out of the way up-front to avoid potential problems like this. Remember that dating is, in many ways, a numbers game. His number doesn't seem to match your number.
