Back to School - for a Second Round
Return to the classroom and enjoy priceless returns

"The moment a person stops learning, they start to grow old."

I was once stuck in a career I didn't like. Without much sense of what I might like to pursue, I enrolled in a writing workshop at a nearby creative-arts university. Although I had a degree in communications - and consequently, some training and expertise as a writer - certain skills come only with consistent practice and infusion of new thoughts and ideas.
A year later, I changed careers.
As my experience proves, going back to school can change your life. Whether you're seeking a degree, honing your skills or just expanding your horizons, there are several reasons to consider a scholastic encore:
1. Learning keeps you young and connected. Studying new subjects may lead you to fresh avenues of thought and occupation - or back to those long forgotten.
2. You'll meet like-minded people. In the business world, it's known as networking; on the playground, it's called making friends. Regardless, meeting new people translates to having new ideas, which leads to a more interesting you.
3. You'll be more focused than the first time around. You're also bringing real-world experience to the table, which will enrich your learning and that of your fellow students.
4. Discounts, deals and savings. A student ID gets you into great readings, concerts and events for less. Cha-ching!
5. Tax benefits. Of course, this depends on your profession and courseload - but even if you can't write off the tuition, how can you set a price on education?
