What's in a Name?
Would you name your child this!?
-Stephanie Elliot
When Editor-at-Large, Julie Ryan Evans shared this article with the Betty Crew, we had lots to say about name choices for children.
The article is about a girl named Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii, although really, I am not sure if the girl's name is Talula Does The Hula and she is from Hawaii, or if her whole name is actually Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii? And does Talula Does The Hula From Hawail even know how to do the hula?
Perhaps she has a sister named Elena Does The Macarena From Portugual?
Regardless, tell me this is not screwed up.
So, of course, this got the Betty gals' undies in a bunch, and we had an e-chat on the name game and how some parents are just clueless. Our emails flew back and forth in a frenzy over this one:
Betty Steph: I remember hearing of a kid named Bat Girl once, and I know a real live Danny Boy. Danny Boy is very Irish.
Betty Mary Beth: My name - Mary Elizabeth Joan - kinda had my parents pegging me for the nunnery! Two virgins and a martyr! Can't get any more celibate than that.
Betty April: And then you have a girl I went to school with: Andrea Seimen, pronounced "semen." Imagine the ridicule! read more...
