Want Hair Like Emma Stone’s? Take a Few Tips from Her Hairstylist
Emma Stone’s hairstylist, Mara Roszak, dishes on her favorite hair products and more!
Emma Stone definitely isn’t stingy when it comes to giving her style and beauty team credit. She’s sung the praises of makeup artist Rachel Goodwin; she’s called stylist Petra Flannery “the voice of reason” behind her killer red carpet ensembles; but who’s responsible for her gorgeous hair?
Meet hairstylist extraordinaire Mara Roszak! Emma makes it no secret that Mara is the reason her hair always looks fabulous, whether it’s blonde, red, or somewhere in between. After hearing the Gangster Squad star gush about Mara, Refinery29 tracked the hair guru down and had one heck of a conversation with her. About Emma, Mara says, “[she] has really great hair—she has a natural wave in her hair that can be either easily smoothed out because it’s not super-frizzy, or easily enhanced. It’s kind of the perfect hair.” Not that we’re jealous or anything! Mara also notes that Emma “just has that hair that holds a curl or a style, which is really helpful for the red carpet because you never know what it’s going to look like when you get there.”
Everyone’s hair needs a little help every now and again, though—Even Emma Stone’s. How does Mara deal with it? With a little bit of help from her friends, of course. Take a few tips from Mara and give your hair the very best when it comes to styling products:
- PHYTO Phytovolume Actif volumizer spray ($28, beauty.com): This is Mara’s go-to product to get volume and enhance natural texture. “It’s not stick,” she says, “so you don’t feel it in the hair at all. I’m leery of a lot of volumizing products because unles a product is super-lightweight, you are adding weight—which is contrary to what you want to do.” She notes, though, that this particular spray works on everyone.
- TIGI Bed Head Superstar Queen for a Day thickening spray ($16.50, drugstore.com): This one is a multi-purpose product to have in your beauty tricks bag. Says Mara, “You can use it as a volumizer, but it’s great for a smooth blowout with volume as well.”
- Bumble and bumble surf spray ($28, amazon.com): Want that beachy look? Reach for a surf spray. Mara notes, “I keep trying different surf sprays and I just keep coming back to [this one].” Guess it’s a keeper!
-Serums and oils: Mara is a big believer in hair serums, especially for your ends. “It helps in the blowdry process,” she says; “your hair gets really smooth and shiny when you use one.” There are ways to use serums and oils and ways not to use them, though. For the best results, Mara says, “Whenever you apply anything creamy or oily, always start at the ends and work your way up. Less is more with products like that—you can always add more.” Her favorites include Couture Color Pequi oil ($32, amazon.com), KeSARI Indian Oil hair serum ($31.50, amazon.com), and Model Cosmetic Rose Veil hair serum ($45, amazon.com) for damp, towel-dried hair, and Leonor Greyl huile de palme ($50, shop.nordstrom.com) for dry, unwashed hair.
