BC: Most of us have wanted to steal an outfit or two from Mona’s wardrobe. Do you have a favorite look?
JP: Mona’s definitely a fashionista. I love her pretty dresses and killer heels.
BC: How does your personal style compare to Mona’s?
JP: Mona’s a lot more glamorous than I am. I’d pair a glam dress with funky-chic hair and makeup and accessories with pops of color.
BC: What would be your perfect outfit?
JP: Tights –I love tights—with crazy studded boots and an off-the-shoulder rocker tee.
BC: Are there any pranks from the set?
JP: Even though the show gets really intense, we are always laughing on set. Our boom operator, Jill, never wears heels. There was a take where Hanna’s mom walks down a hallway in heels, so we put Jill in them and the camera shot her teetering down the hallway.
BC: You’re starring in The Concerto. What drew you to the film?
JP: I’ve always wanted to play the leading lady in a romance movie! I love chick flicks, and the musical elements are close to my heart. [Ed note: Janel plays Lisa Wagner, a musician haunted by the ghost of the perfect guy].
BC: You also have musical theater roots. What direction do you see your career going in?
JP: My goal is to do both. I started out with music, so it’s very close to my heart, but acting has become a passion. Something that combines the two –like Glee—would be great. And that’s why I was so drawn to The Concerto. Eventually, I’d like to act and sing on Broadway.
BC: Who would you most want to sing a duet with?
JP: Frank Ocean, definitely. He’s my favorite artist!
BC: Which actors or actresses have inspired you?
JP: Edward Norton is excellent in any role he takes on and is amazing to watch. Catherine Zeta Jones does it all: acting, singing, dancing. I’d like to follow in her footsteps.
BC: Do you think you’ll ever play a mean girl like Mona after Pretty Little Liars?
JP: Probably! Apparently, I’m very good at it. But I’m drawn to all different types of roles, as long as I connect with my character.
