Brace Yourselves, Harry Hunters: Prince Harry Is Coming Back to the US
Prince Harry is set to make a tour of the United States in May—though not for the purposes of naked Las Vegas parties.
Did you miss somehow running into Prince Harry and magically sweeping him off his feet the last time he was in the US? Well, brace yourselves, Harry Hunters: He’s coming back—hopefully this time without a nude photo scandal.
According to People, Harry is set to make an extensive tour through Colorado, Washington D.C., New York, and New Jersey. He’s due to arrive on May 9, and he’ll finish the trip up with a polo match on May 15 in Greenwich, Connecticut.
In case you’re hoping for another Las Vegas party spree, though, you’ll probably end up being disappointed; the point of the trip isn’t for pleasure. He’s visiting on behalf of his charities and the foundation that he runs with Prince William and Duchess Kate. What’s on the itinerary? Here’s the Cliff Notes version:
- In Colorado Springs, he’ll attend the Warrior Games. The Warrior Games are designed to introduce injured service members and veterans to Paralympic sport competition and encourage them to stay physically active when they return to their local communities after the event. More than 200 service members and veterans are expected to participate in 2013; they’ll comprise five teams representing the Army, Marine Corps, Navy/Coast Guard, Air Force, and Special Operations. There will also be one international team from the UK. As Harry is a soldier himself, no doubt this is a cause near and dear to his heart.
- In New York, Harry will promote the UK at some sort of cultural and business event (no other details are available, alas). He’ll also serve as the guest of honor at a party to benefit the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry, which is William, Kate, and Harry’s main vehicle for their philanthropic activity. He’ll be presenting all three of the royal triumverate at the event, as William and Kate are putting all official travel abroad on hold while they prepare for the Royal Baby’s arrival.
- And in Connecticut, the polo match Harry will attend (and maybe play in?) will benefit the prince’s charity, Sentebale. Founded by Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, the charity aims to help vulnerable children and victims of poverty, as well as to aid in the fight against Lesotho’s HIV/AIDS epidemic.
In spite of his wild child ways, Harry has often been compared favorably to his mother, Diana, in relation to his charitable works. Good for you, Harry—we hope the trip accomplishes everything you’re setting out to do and more!
