I can still remember poring over powerhouse Gail Collins ever succinct New York Times pieces as I sat in my first college journalism course (yes, her articles are that good). And when Collins isn’t penning op-ed columns for the paper of record, you can find her authoring witty tomes. If you were only going to read two books on women’s history, make them Collins’ America’s Women: 400 Years of Dolls, Drudges, Helpmates and Heroines and When Everything Changed: The Amazing Journey of American Women from 1960 to the Present. Forget pop starlets and actresses; I think I’d probably stutter and make awkward hand movements if I ever came within five feet of this journalist/author/generally incredible woman!
