Band of Outsiders’ Artfully Mad Hatter Look:
According to Duffy of Oribe, “It all started with the hat.” Every model in the show wore a knit turban cap; as such, a certain hair look was needed. The style Duffy came up with is whimsical and cool, just like the quintessential Band of Outsiders woman. Inspired by the texture of the wool caps and the knots in their design, Duffy created texture in the models’ hair before tying it back into a low knot. The final look? Raw, organic, and effortlessly beautiful.
Here’s how to get it:
1. Start with straight, clean hair. Apply Oribe’s Volumista Mist for Volume ($38, oribe.com) from the roots to the ends; then follow it up with Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray ($37, oribe.com) from mid-shaft down.
2. Next, blow-dry your hair with a diffuser, scrunching it with your hands to create a broken-up texture.
3. Then, split your hair into three sections—one on each side of your head and one in the back. Take the two side sections and pull them towards the back of your head, tying them together into a knot. Secure the knot with bobby pins if it needs a little extra hold, and make sure you leave the back section OUT of the knot.
4. Stick your hat on and refine the shape of the whole look by shifting the knot and pulling out some pieces in the front. Add a little more Apres Beach Spray if you like. Voila!
