2. The Body Shop Colour Crush eye shadow monos ($10, thebodyshop-usa.com).
At just ten dollars a pop and with 19—count ‘em!—different shades to choose from, The Body Shop’s beautifully wearable Colour Crush eye shadows come in everything from shocking brights to elegant beiges. Wear them dry for a soft, pearly look or wet for a bold, bright one—the possibilities are endless. Not only that, but they’re 100 percent cruelty-free and the slick, clear packaging is recyclable, to boot. What’s not to love?
I was lucky enough to be able to try these babies out in a whole host of colors, ranging from pale blues to deep purples and from steely silvers to warm browns. My biggest discovery? I was able to get the easiest high-impact look ever with just one shadow: Something Blue. To get the look, dampen your eye shadow brush first; then use it to sweep the bold turquoise shade across your entire lid, winging it out a little at the outer corners of your eye. Then give a liner brush the same treatment and use it to line your lower lash line. I like to call this look “mermaid eyes”: I can just picture one of those mythical finned beauties lounging in a lagoon with her eyes done up with this eye-catching look.
Looking for something subtler? I also loved the mossy, earthy look created by using the soft green Sweet Pea shade across the lid, a bit of rich brown Coconuts About You in the crease and along the upper lash line, and a subtle brush of the iridescent beige Oh, Honey to highlight the brow bone. It’s a beautiful daytime look that’s absolutely perfect for spring.
