As if we needed another reason to love Cate Blanchett! When she and her family moved back to their native Australia, they settled in a sandstone mansion that dates back to 1877—but only after giving the house an extensive makeover in 2007 to make it more eco-friendly (it now runs on solar power, among other things). Furthermore, after being named co-artistic director of the Sydney Theatre Company along with her hubby, writer and director Andrew Upton, she launched a plan to turn the STC green: With the help of things like solar panels and rainwater, the goal is to eventually generate enough power to do a whole theatrical season off the grid. If they achieve their goal, the STC would be the first theatre company in the world to do it. We hope they succeed!
