’50 Shades of Grey’ Parody Showdown: Selena Gomez vs. Ellen DeGeneres
If Selena Gomez’s ’50 Shades of Blue’ and Ellen DeGeneres’ dramatic reading of ’50 Shades of Grey’ got into a fight, which would win? Weigh in here!
You guys. Selena Gomez just did a 50 Shades of Grey parody video with Funny or Die. It’s called 50 Shades of Blue. And it’s hilarious. Is this a sign that our little Disney star is finally growing up? Here, take a look:
The best part? It’s not that the painter guy she’s obsessed with is kind of a little bit gross. It’s that she never speaks out loud. Not once.
One of the key traits of any and all Disney stars are their wholesome, good girl images. This means that they are required to keep anything remotely related to sex far, far away from them—until they decide it’s time to shed their good girl image. Most of them do this in the most ridiculous ways possible: Nude photos (see: Vanessa Hudgens), pole dances (ref: Miley Cyrus), and so on. Selena is to be commended for not only not going the ridiculous route, but perhaps more importantly, using her smarts and sense of humor to get her point across. I don’t know about you, Bettys, but I totally lost it at the bit about the paint swatches.
Which brings me to my next question: How do you think this parody stacks up against Ellen DeGeneres’ memorable dramatic reading of 50 Shades of Grey? Just in case you need a refresher, here you go:
Honestly? I’m having a hard time determining which one is funnier. Both women get huge props for taking on this somewhat ridiculous cultural phenomenon with humor and grace. Pay attention, everyone: This is how it’s done!
Tell us: Which 50 Shades spoof do you think is funnier, Selena’s or Ellen’s?
