A Robot to Replace Punxsutawney Phil on Groundhog Day?
PETA is calling for a mechanical groundhog this February 2.

We all wait with bated breath to see if little Punxsutawney Phil is going to see his shadow on February 2 and doom us to another six weeks of winter … but did we ever stop for a moment to think about the little groundhog at the center off all that attention?
We should do just that, says People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). The animal rights activist group is calling for a robotic replacement for our furry little friend, claiming it’s not fair to subject Punxsutawney Phil to those bright lights and that big crowd.
But William Deeley, president of the Inner Circle of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, says the animal is “being treated better than the average child in Pennsylvania.”
I’d love to hear what some Pennsylvania parents have to say about that.
I for one am all in favor of a robot-groundhog – as long as we can program him to NOT see his shadow. Let’s hear it for early spring! (FoxNews.com)
