Say goodbye to Ashley Rodriguez, Janell Wheeler, Tyler Grady and Joe Munoz (above) – this is likely the last you’ll see of them. The four semifinalists were eliminated from the competition in Thursday night’s episode of American Idol.
The contestants took the elimination pretty well, though when she yelped into Ryan Seacrest’s microphone, “I am going to sing a song!” it seemed like Ashley didn’t want to give up the spotlight.
Ashley was cut following her disappointing performance of “Happy” by Leona Lewis, while Janell’s underwhelming try at Heart’s “What About Love” wasn’t enough to keep her in the contest.
Although Ellen DeGeneres had liked Joe’s performance of “You & I Both” by Jason Mraz, he failed to impress viewers. Tyler couldn’t shoulder all of the blame for his awful adaptation of The Guess Who’s “American Woman,” and blamed the judges for his poor performance.
“I really like all the judges,” Grady said. “I’ve really had a great time with them, but I feel like I didn’t really get much constructive criticism during Hollywood Week, and I feel like what they told me was a little bit too late.”
Maybe now he will be able to use that constructive criticism somewhere else. Better luck next time, contestants! (ABC News)
